Vitrified Diamond Wheels for Carbide and PCD
- Production grinding of carbide inserts, solid tools, and PCD
- Diamond abrasive — not CBN, not for hardened steel
- 14A1 and 11V9 lead; 1A1 and 6A2 as required
- Made to your diameter, grit, and concentration
Product Information
Overview
Vitrified wheels for carbide and PCD — indexable inserts, solid carbide tools, and PCD-edged tools. Diamond in a porous ceramic bond. Wet grinding is standard.
- Dressable on the machine — form restored in cycle, not by swapping the wheel
- High stock removal and long rim life on carbide and PCD production
- Stable land and periphery through a shift
- Porous ceramic bond, free cutting with coolant
Applications:
- Cemented carbide indexable inserts — periphery, land, and clearance
- Solid carbide end mills, drills, and similar tools — flutes where the wheel is dressed in cycle
- Carbide blanks and tool bodies — cylindrical grinding
- PCD inserts and PCD-tipped tools, including woodworking PCD edges
PcBN is not a copy of the PCD spec. Send the grade.
Versus hardened steel
Same ceramic bond as vitrified CBN for hardened steel. Different abrasive, different job. Not interchangeable.
| Carbide / PCD | Hardened steel | |
|---|---|---|
| Abrasive | Diamond | CBN |
| Workpiece | WC-Co carbide, PCD compact | Bearing steel, case-hardened steel, HSS |
| Typical operations | Insert periphery and land; flute grinding with in-cycle dressing; OD of carbide blanks | OD, ID, race, and face grinding of shafts, rings, and gears |
| Lead shapes | 14A1, 11V9 | 1A1, 6A2 |
| Typical machines | Insert grinders; CNC tool grinders with a dresser | CNC cylindrical and production grinders |
Diamond on carbide and PCD. CBN on hardened steel, HSS, and bearing rings. Do not run one wheel on the other job.

Send a mark such as 14A1-125-10-32 D91 or 11V9-100-2-20 D64, plus carbide grade or PCD type, wet/dry, and dresser. We match diameter, thickness, hole, grit, and concentration.
When vitrified diamond is the wrong wheel
- Natural diamond bruting and polish → vitrified diamond for natural diamond
- Hardened steel, HSS, bearing rings → vitrified CBN
- Glass, quartz, stone, silicon wafers → metal bond
- Thin cut-off or a short-run form → electroplated
