Product Information
What we grind
Metal bond wheels grind fused quartz and technical ceramics — alumina, zirconia, silicon carbide, and similar hard, brittle blanks. Typical jobs: tube and rod cut-off, plate slicing, OD and face grinding of fired ceramic parts.
Metal bond is used here for life and a stable kerf or edge. The rim does not shed grit the way resin does, so a cut stays consistent through a run. Coolant is normal.
Architectural float and laminated glass belong on Metal Bond × Glass. Silicon wafers, LED wafers, and SiC belong on Silicon Wafers. Carbide tools and TCT saws belong on resin bond.
Cut-off or grinding
Cut-off and grinding use different wheels.
Thin cut-off
Quartz tube, rod, and plate, and some ceramic bars, use a thin 1A1R. Kerf, runout, and wet cutting matter more than a pretty rim. Metal 1A1R is the production choice when the blade has to last. Short-run or very thin cut-off can also be electroplated 1A1R.
OD, face, and cup
Cylindrical and surface grinders take a 1A1 on the periphery. 6A2 when the machine takes a cup on the face of a ceramic blank or a quartz disc. Keep heat in the coolant; dry grinding of quartz or ceramics is the exception, not the spec.
If the factory only needs a throwaway form for a short contour, electroplated may fit better.

Also available: 1V1 (narrow grooves). Send the current wheel stamp — we match it.
Send a mark such as 1A1R-125-0.6-22 or 1A1-150-10-22 D76 plus material (quartz / alumina / ZrO2 / SiC) and wet/dry. We match diameter, thickness, hole, grit, and concentration to the spindle and coolant.
When metal bond is the wrong wheel
- Architectural glass edge, arris, OG, bevelling → Metal Bond × Glass
- One-off contour or a plated form you will scrap after a short job → electroplated
- Carbide tools, TCT saws, mold steel → resin bond
- Production grinding of hardened steel → vitrified CBN
- Granite, marble, and engineered stone → Stone
- Silicon wafers, LED wafers, and SiC → Silicon Wafers
Metal bond here is wet, diamond, and built to last on quartz and ceramics. It is not a glass-edger wheel and not a steel wheel.
